Hi All! I want to tell you about a musical opportunity that came my way a little over a week ago. I was asked to join the musical production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, directed by Steve Barikian, http://www.curbly.com/users/diy-maven/posts/1394-a-peek-behind-the-curtains-an-interview-with-stephen-barikian, co-staring with Adam Enright from New York, www.adamenright.com. It’s very interesting to me how this all came about. I had been thinking to myself earlier this month that I wanted to do something different musically, ya know kinda get out of my skin a little. I said to myself, “Maybe I should start auditioning for a musical theater production here in town, OR maybe I should form a band with the songs that I have sung for TV/Film”. I also wanted to get my guitar chops going. Well, I’m hanging out one morning at my place and I get this email that says in the subject, “Female Musician Needed-Last Minute Replacement” “Hmm I said, this sounds interesting”, so I began to read on.
“Hello Amanda! I found your information on LaWIM and figured it was worth sending a message. I have put together a production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” that runs at the end of the month and our Yitzhak had to leave the production to take a touring job. I was wondering if you would be interested in joining the project! I’m not sure if you are familiar with the show or now but it requires backup vocals and we’d like to add a killer guitar solo for her in the finale.”
Wow! The Gods have answered my thoughts so quickly!
) A totally different gig, a different kind of live performance, musical theater AND electric guitar! I was like; OK let me find out more about this. Long story short, I joined the production and everyone is super cool and talented. I didn’t realize how much I was going to have to learn so quickly, like in a week, but I was up for the challenge. After all, the music is so well written. Stephen Trask is a great composer. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0871136/.
Here’s the info. The show opens for an Art Festival called “Outcry for Artists in Los Angeles” http://www.arthousetheatre.org/ at Monk Space here in town http://www.monkspace.com/ Performances are July 26-28th. All info is under the TOUR Tab here on my website. Come check out the show and all the other local artists showing their work. It’s a 5 day festival! This is going to be a blast and a treat for all who attend! Let’s break out of the norm TOGETHER!
Cheers, XO Amanda
